Under Australian law celebrants must be authorised by the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department to carry out weddings. I am one of the new generation of trained marriage celebrants and I also have training in undertaking naming ceremonies, renewal of vow ceremonies and same-sex commitment ceremonies.
